Two police inspectors and two constables killed in a Boko Haram attack on a police formation in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State were laid to rest on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Inspector Samuel Ezekiel, Inspector Sanusi Mohammed, Police Constable Bitrus Luka, and Police Constable Shaibu Bukar. They died during a gunfire exchange while repelling the terrorist invasion on Saturday. The burial took place at Kawar Maila Burial Ground and the Maximum Prison Burial Ground in Maiduguri.
Representatives of the Borno State Police Command attended the interment, including Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid and Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations ACP Jawi A. Mohammed. The command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the event and stated that funeral rites were conducted by CSP Bukar Gajibo, the Imam, and CSP Theophilus Mutum, the Chaplain. Prayers were offered for the departed officers.
Four officers are dead because they were on duty defending a police post from armed attackers. The burial of Inspector Samuel Ezekiel, Inspector Sanusi Mohammed, Police Constable Bitrus Luka, and Police Constable Shaibu Bukar underscores the persistent danger security personnel face in Borno. For Nigerians, this is another moment to reckon with the cost of insecurity in the northeast. Honouring the dead matters, but so does asking how many more will be lost before operations improve.
