Dressed in elaborate costumes adorned with feathers, beads, and sequins, participants danced to Yoruba rhythms, marking the start of the annual celebration themed "A Homecoming of Heritage." Mayegun Musi Owolabi, Captain of the Lafiaji community, told Channels Television that preparations were extensive, describing the carnival as a vital expression of "cultural preservation rooted in history." He said the community has preserved unaltered traditions across generations and uses the event to "foster unity and peace within the community." Owolabi added that the carnival's inclusion in the Lagos State Government's official calendar has elevated its importance.
