Nasir El-Rufai's temporary release from ICPC custody has sparked controversy over the application of compassionate grounds for his release.
El-Rufai, a former Governor of Kaduna State, was taken into custody by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission on an undisclosed charge, but was released on compassionate grounds following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai in Cairo, Egypt.
The release occurred on Friday, March 27.
