A 51-year-old man, Dalyop Betobeje, was killed in the early hours of Friday during an attack on Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The assault, reportedly carried out by suspected terrorists from the Rankum (Mahanga) area, occurred less than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu visited Jos to reassure residents of federal support for peace. Just two days earlier, on Wednesday night, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked Ban village in Heipang District, Bassa Local Government Area, killing secondary school student Gloria Godwin and injuring several others. Property was also destroyed in the attack.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) condemned both incidents, calling them "brutal and senseless acts" that expose ongoing security failures. Jacob Pam Chall, Chairman of BYM Heipang District, demanded a full investigation and prosecution of those responsible, urging security agencies to maintain operations. Security sources confirmed investigations are underway and operations have been launched to apprehend the perpetrators. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces. President Tinubu, during his Wednesday visit, had pledged that the violence "will not repeat itself," but the subsequent attacks have challenged the credibility of that promise.
