Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has approved a ₦2 billion grant for infrastructural development at Edo University, Iyamho. The funding forms part of a broader commitment to upgrade facilities and expand the university's operational capacity.
The governor also increased the institution's monthly subvention from ₦100 million to ₦250 million. This adjustment is intended to improve learning conditions and sustain academic activities.
Okpebholo made the announcement on Monday during the commissioning of the Ehi Aganmonmen Business Administration E-Library, a Fitness Centre, and a new University Health Centre. He described the projects as pivotal to repositioning the state's education sector.
He credited collaborative efforts, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adetimirin, who donated one month's salary, and a parent who sponsored the architectural designs. Okpebholo urged corporate bodies and individuals to support similar initiatives, stating government cannot shoulder all developmental needs alone.
