Two kidnapping victims, Musibau Kehinde Tracy, 24, and Edewor John, 39, were rescued by the Edo State Police Command following a gunfight with suspected abductors. The operation took place on April 5, 2026, at Iyera, along the pipeline after the Ovia River, in Ovia North-East Local Government Area. According to Police Public Relations Officer ASP Eno Ikoedem, the rescue was part of an intelligence-driven ambush ordered by Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika amid rising abduction cases around Izakagbo/Iwu community. The victims, who were abducted from the Izakagbo/Iwu axis, were found unhurt and are now in safe custody receiving support.

ASP Eno Ikoedem confirmed the police operation led to an exchange of gunfire as operatives intercepted the suspects. She stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those who fled the scene. The police command has reassured residents of Izakagbo/Iwu and surrounding areas of its commitment to restoring safety.
