Ogun State lawmakers have invited nominees for the State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, to appear for screening. The nominees, whose names were forwarded by Governor Dapo Abiodun, include Mr. Babatunde Adetona Osibodu, Mr. Tunji Akoni, Mr. Ayodele Bankole, Mrs. Gbemisola Onasanya, and Mrs. Oluwaremilekun Olaopa.

The nominees are required to submit 30 copies of their curriculum vitae and other credentials to the Office of the Clerk before the screening. This move comes as the Ogun State House of Assembly is considering several bills, including the Survey and Geoinformatics Bill of Ogun State, 2026, the Ogun State Judicial Institute Bill, 2026, and the Ogun State Education and Skills Trust Fund Bill, 2026.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has directed the Clerk to read the bills for the first time during the plenary session. The bills aim to establish a centre for professional training of staff in the state judiciary, regulate education infrastructure, and amend the State Rural Access Road Agency Law.

Elemide's directive is part of the ongoing legislative process in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

💡 NaijaBuzz Take

The Ogun State House of Assembly's decision to screen Abiodun's nominees for OGSIEC suggests a commitment to due diligence in the electoral process. This move may actually strengthen the electoral commission's independence, as it will be free from undue influence from the executive arm of government.
