Covenant University has emerged as the top private university in Nigeria according to the AD Scientific Index 2026, ranking third nationally, 36th in Africa, and 1,857th globally. The Ota-based institution, founded in 2002 by the Living Faith Church, is recognised for its research output, innovation, and leadership training. Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), established in 2009 in Ado-Ekiti, ranks 18th in Nigeria, 112th in Africa, and 2,631st worldwide. Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), launched in 2021 in Kano, appears on the list at 19th in Nigeria and 131st in Africa with a global position of 2,948. Redeemer's University, founded in 2005 in Ede, Osun State by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, ranks 20th in Nigeria and 136th in Africa. Bowen University, a Baptist-affiliated institution in Iwo, and Landmark University in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, rank 21st and 22nd in Nigeria respectively. Babcock University, owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and located in Ilishan-Remo, ranks 31st in Nigeria. Bells University of Technology, founded in 2005 in Ota by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, is also among the ranked institutions.
