Eleven people were killed and about 50 houses destroyed in Akyawa, with two additional homes burned in Udege Kasa, during a violent reprisal attack by suspected hoodlums early Friday. The violence followed the alleged killing of two individuals from the attackers' community, sparking the retaliatory assault in the Udege Development Area of Nasarawa State. Nasarawa Police Commissioner CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed visited the affected communities on Friday, expressing sorrow and assuring residents that justice would be pursued. He ordered an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators, directing tactical and investigative units to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible. During a stakeholders' meeting, CP Shetima urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information to aid investigations. Police, in collaboration with the Military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have been reinforced in the area to prevent further unrest. The Nasarawa Police Command stated that normalcy has returned and measures are in place to forestall future violence.
