NDLEA operatives have intercepted a massive cocaine consignment concealed in the heads of imported dry stock fish bound for India. The consignment, weighing 5.80 kilograms, was discovered by the agency's operatives following intelligence on the activities of a trans-border drug syndicate. The illicit substance was intended for export to Delhi, India, and the seizure is a major blow to the syndicate's operations.

The NDLEA has been actively pursuing and dismantling drug syndicates across the country, with recent operations yielding significant results. In Lagos, operatives intercepted two illicit consignments heading to the United Kingdom, containing methamphetamine and morphine sulphate. In another operation, a notorious female drug lord, Omolade Abigail Jolayemi, was arrested along with her salesgirl, Sarah Zainab Agbabiaka.

In Ekiti State, an 80-year-old man, Oke Samuel, was arrested for possessing skunk and methamphetamine. In Ondo State, a suspect, Enuwa Kehinde Kingsley, was apprehended with 894.72 kilograms of skunk. In Benue State, a suspect, Saater Nyam, was arrested with 116.7 kilograms of skunk.

The recent spate of arrests and seizures by the NDLEA highlights the agency's commitment to tackling the country's drug menace. Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa's praise for the operatives is well-deserved, given their efforts to dismantle drug syndicates and reduce the supply of illicit substances. However, the sheer scale of the problem suggests that more needs to be done to address the root causes of drug trafficking in Nigeria. The NDLEA must continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that those involved in the trade are brought to justice.
