Three traditional title holders in Oyo State are set to be crowned as Obas in absentia, with the state government confirming that the conferment of staff of office and beaded crowns will proceed even if the appointees are not physically present. Hon. Ademola Ojo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, made the announcement on Friday at Mapo Hall in Ibadan. The ceremony is part of Governor Seyi Makinde's ongoing recognition of traditional leadership roles across the state. Ojo stated that the elevation of the three High Chiefs to Oba status aligns with established cultural protocols and government policy. The names of the chiefs and their communities were not disclosed in the initial statement. The event marks another instance of the state government's involvement in chieftaincy matters, which has sparked debate in some quarters.
