Laja Adeoye, a leading governorship aspirant for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, held a strategic meeting with the Forum of PDP local government chairmen from all 20 councils. The forum was led by Wasiu Aderounmu Adeyemi (Jagun), chairman of Shomolu Local Government and Chairman of Chairmen. The chairmen expressed strong support for Adeoye, describing him as a young, vibrant, and competent leader suited for Lagosians' desire for change. They passed a vote of confidence in Seyi Makinde, PDP leader in the South-West and governor of Oyo State, citing his development model as one they hope to replicate in Lagos.
The group praised Olabode Ibiyinka George, Atona Oodua, for his role in strengthening the PDP in Lagos and affirmed their commitment to securing PDP victories in all 2027 elective positions. Wasiu Adeyemi affirmed the forum's full backing for Adeoye's gubernatorial ambition and pledged to mobilise support across all local governments. He commended the PDP State Executive Committee, led by Amos Fawole, for its stabilising leadership. In response, Adeoye outlined a governance agenda focused on quality education, accessible healthcare, improved security, affordable housing through public-private partnerships, and economic diversification. He also promised to modernise transportation, support SMEs, expand tech hubs, and grant autonomy to local governments.
Adeoye is selling a Lagos that doesn't yet exist — one with functional rail networks, tech hubs in every division, and slum-free cities. The scale of his promises exceeds any PDP track record in Lagos, where the party has not won a governorship election since 1999. Without a single local government seat in the state, the forum's pledge of "massive support" rests on ambition, not structure. For Lagosians, this is politics as aspiration, not delivery.
