Kano governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has cautioned members of the State Executive Council against disloyalty, internal rivalry and leaking of official government information.
He warned that such actions will no longer be tolerated.
However, his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, shunned the 38th Executive Council meeting held at the Council Chamber, Government House.
Recall that Kano state House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Comrade Gwarzo, who was accused of diverting funds meant for Local Government Areas, among other allegations.
He has been served a letter by the state House of Assembly to clear himself of the impeachable allegations.
The move has, however, resulted in tension in the state.
Our Correspondent gathered that the Deputy Governor, who also refused to decamp to the All Progressive Congress (APC), with his boss, did not give official explanation for his absence in the 38th Executive Council meeting.
During the meeting, Yusuf urged cabinet members to remain united and committed to the goals of the administration for the progress of Kano State.
He explained that recent political developments informed his decision, alongside key stakeholders, to align with the APC in the interest of the state’s development and stronger collaboration with the Federal Government.
He also confirmed that five commissioners had resigned following the political realignment, noting that four of them stepped down after declining to join the move to the APC.
The affected ministries include Humanitarian Affairs, Youth and Sports, Internal Security and Special Duties.
Governor Yusuf accepted their resignations and wished them success in their future endeavors.
The governor further announced the removal of the State Head of Service Abdullahi Musa and also confirmed the appointment of Bilkisu Shehu Maimota as Acting Head of Service where he urged her to promote discipline, unity and professionalism within the state civil service.
However, Governor Yusuf said his government will give maximum support and cooperation to the new Chairman of the APC in Kano, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa and other Executive members of the party.
The newly elected APC Chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, who was the former commissioner for Water Resources came for farewell visit to the Council, during the 38th Executive Council meeting.
Governor Yusuf recalled Doguwa’s contributions in the educational sector, leading to declaring state of emergency on education in the state.
He stated that Doguwa has contributed immensely to the development of the state, “and his exit from the Executive Council seemed emotional, though the position he holds now, will take the state to greater height.”
In his response, the newly elected APC Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, said the party is in a safe hand, “what is needed from the council members is continuous loyalty to the Governor and the APC as a party.”
He said, “decamping to APC is the best decision and we will do everything possible for the reelection bid of the Governor, come 2027 general election.”
Secretary to the state Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, the commissioner for education, Haruna Ali Makoda and commissioner for women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, popularly known as Amina HOD, in their separate speeches, extolled the virtues of the APC Chairman for his integrity and doggedness in politics.
