**Police Foil Kidnap Attempt, Rescue Five in Benue**
In a dramatic turn of events, the Benue State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt, saving the lives of five innocent passengers along the Ugbokpo–Agatu road in Apa Local Government Area. The incident occurred on the evening of March 13, around 7:45 p.m., while the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Apa, was conducting a patrol in the area as part of efforts to boost security and reassure residents.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspected kidnappers had earlier seized a Sharon vehicle with registration number EGB 407 YS, driven by Danladi John, who was traveling from Ugbokpo to Agatu with four passengers on board. However, the police patrol team arrived in Ojantelle community and confronted the kidnappers, leading to a fierce gun battle that forced the suspects to abandon their victims and flee into nearby bushes.
Fortunately, the police operatives rescued all five occupants of the vehicle safely without any injuries. The passengers were later allowed to continue their journey, relieved to have escaped the clutches of their captors.
In the aftermath of the incident, police operatives launched a manhunt in the surrounding bushes to apprehend the fleeing suspects. While the command has assured residents that efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators, this incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing security challenges in some parts of the country, including Benue.
It is heartening to see the police taking proactive steps to prevent such incidents and reassure residents of their safety. This is particularly important in a state like Benue, which has experienced its fair share of security challenges in recent times. The police command's commitment to improving security along the Ugbokpo–Agatu road and other areas will undoubtedly contribute to a safer and more secure environment for all residents.
