Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Radda visited Sayaya village in Matazu Local Government Area after bandits attacked the community on Sunday. The attackers stormed the village, set the primary health care centre ablaze, looted and burned multiple shops, and ambushed the police station, killing one officer. Two civilians were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The governor inspected the damaged facilities, including the burnt health centre and shops, and met with residents to express his condolences.

Radda also commiserated with the Divisional Police Officer and police command over the death of the officer. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the governor directed the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the area. The attackers caused destruction of property estimated to be worth millions of naira during the daylight assault. Sayaya village and another community in Matazu LGA were both targeted in the coordinated attacks.

Governor Radda's visit to Sayaya comes only after lives and infrastructure have been lost to banditry. The fact that a health centre and police station were attacked in broad daylight shows a collapse of local security architecture. For residents of Matazu, state visits offer little comfort when basic protection remains absent. This incident reflects how routine violence has become in parts of northern Nigeria.
