Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr Danladi Jatau, has called on Christians and all Nigerians to remain hopeful despite prevailing national challenges. He made the appeal during an Easter service at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Good News in Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area, on Sunday. Jatau stressed that no nation can experience rapid development without peace, urging citizens to pray for unity and stability in Nasarawa State and Nigeria. He described Easter as the most important event in Christianity, symbolising victory over sin and death and offering hope of eternal life. "I am an advocate of peace, I want to call on us to continue to live in peace and unity with one another," Jatau said. He encouraged Christians to sustain the virtues learned during Lent and to remain steadfast in faith. The speaker expressed sympathy with the Udege community over recent killings and property destruction by gunmen. He commended President Bola Tinubu and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for proactive steps to curb insecurity. Jatau also urged political actors to ensure a peaceful and rules-based lead-up to the 2027 general elections. Assistant Reverend Amos Samuel of the church urged Christians to embrace peace, unity, sacrifice, and love, saying the resurrection of Jesus Christ guarantees victory over life's challenges.
Dr Danladi Jatau's public alignment with President Tinubu and Plateau State's governor on security subtly shifts legislative tone toward executive support at a time of rising regional violence. His call for hope carries weight coming from a top state official, but offers no legislative action to match the sentiment. For Nigerians enduring real insecurity, especially in communities like Udege, speeches alone cannot substitute for tangible safety measures.
