Governor Nasir Idris declared that Kebbi State will be delivered for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. He made the statement on Monday after a closed-door meeting with political stakeholders in Birnin Kebbi. The gathering included key figures such as Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, former Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs Yusuf Tanko-Sununu, Senator Adamu Aliero, Senator Yahaya Abubakar-Abdullahi, APC National Organising Secretary Suleiman Argungu, and former Senator Bala Ibn Na'Allah. Idris stated, "By God's grace, the APC has come to stay in Kebbi. The people of Kebbi believe in the APC and, In Sha Allah, they will deliver the party at both the state and national levels." He added that detailed resolutions from the meeting would be released by the Commissioner for Information.
Maj. Gen. Aminu Bande (retd.), the 2023 PDP governorship candidate in Kebbi, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His resignation from the PDP followed what he described as extensive consultations and reflection. Bande said the decision was in line with the desire of his supporters for a more stable political platform focused on good, just, and fair governance. His move to the ADC has since been formally confirmed.
Governor Nasir Idris is staking his political authority on delivering Kebbi for Tinubu, despite the opposition's reshuffling. The defection of Aminu Bande to the ADC shows fissures in the PDP, but also gives the APC a narrative of dominance. For Nigerians in Kebbi, this signals a potential consolidation of power within the APC, regardless of whether the sentiment is shared across all voter blocs. Political shifts at this level often matter less to citizens than the tangible impact of governance.
