Two prominent politicians in Rivers State, Edison Ehie and Boma Iyaye, have denied claims that they are planning to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state. Ehie, the immediate past Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, dismissed claims that he is planning to run as the running mate to former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The claim was made in a poster circulating online that portrayed Peterside as a governorship candidate and Ehie as his running mate.

Ehie described the poster as mischievous and misleading, insisting he had no involvement in any such political arrangement. He stated that the narrative was false and politically motivated, adding that he remained loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Ehie also insisted that he remained committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and would continue to support the governor's leadership in the state.

In a related development, Boma Iyaye, an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, denied rumours that he intends to contest the Rivers governorship election in 2027. Iyaye stated that reports suggesting that he had declared a governorship ambition and received endorsement from Wike were inaccurate. He emphasised that his priority remains his current responsibilities at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Governor Siminalayi Fubara's administration in Rivers State is facing renewed scrutiny as two of his allies, Edison Ehie and Boma Iyaye, have denied plans to contest the 2027 governorship election. The denial comes after a poster circulated online suggesting a potential ticket between Ehie and former NIMASA Director-General, Dr Dakuku Peterside. This development raises questions about the stability of Fubara's leadership and the loyalty of his allies. As Ehie remains committed to the APC, it remains to be seen how this will play out in the 2027 elections.
