Fani-Kayode, a former Nigerian aviation minister, has accused opposition figures of spreading fake news to destabilize the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The alleged strategy, according to Fani-Kayode, is aimed at creating tension within the ruling party and undermining confidence in its electoral prospects. He made the claim in a statement on Tuesday, urging APC members to remain united.
Fani-Kayode denied a media report claiming that he was rejected by the German government as an ambassador. The report alleged that his posting was rejected due to ethnic and religious slurs. However, President Bola Tinubu had earlier approved Fani-Kayode's appointment as an ambassador-designate to a Central European country.
Fani-Kayode also cited false claims about political alignments as evidence of the opposition's strategy. He warned that the political space is becoming increasingly charged, calling on party members and supporters to prepare for a tough contest in the next election cycle.
He expressed confidence in the ruling party's chances, stating that "light cannot be overcome by darkness and evil cannot prevail over good." Fani-Kayode also called for greater mobilization within the party, particularly the inclusion of young people in political activities.
Femi Fani-Kayode's warnings about the opposition's tactics to destabilize the APC should be taken seriously, particularly in the face of rising tensions within the party. The former minister's call for greater mobilization and unity among APC members is timely, given the challenges the party may face in the 2027 general elections.
