A former Attorney-General of the Federation has parted ways with the All Progressives Congress.
Chief Michael Aondoakaa, a prominent figure in the party, announced his resignation in a statement on Sunday. The move is effective from March 28, following extensive consultations with his family, political associates, and supporters. Aondoakaa cited prevailing circumstances as the reason for his decision, stating that it was necessary for him to step aside in the overall interest of his people and democratic values.
The former minister expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and support to Benue State. He also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, for his quality leadership in shaping the political landscape of the state. Aondoakaa thanked the party leadership and members in Ushongo Local Government Area and beyond for their support during his time in the APC.
While Aondoakaa's next political move remains unclear, he urged his supporters to remain calm and peaceful, assuring them that a new direction aimed at salvaging and repositioning Benue in the best interest of its people will be communicated in due course.
The sudden departure of a high-profile figure like Aondoakaa from the APC raises questions about the party's internal dynamics and its ability to retain key leaders. The former minister's decision to step aside in the interest of his people and democratic values suggests that he may be positioning himself for a future role that aligns with his values. As the APC navigates this leadership vacuum, it will be interesting to see how Aondoakaa's next move affects the party's fortunes in Benue State.
