The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended all publicity and logistical plans for the planned voter revalidation exercise scheduled to begin April 13, 2026. A directive dated April 4, 2026, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, instructed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) across the country to halt arrangements while continuing internal preparations. These include mobilising personnel and preparing INEC Voter Enrolment Devices. The commission emphasized that RECs should await further directives before resuming any public-facing activities.
INEC also altered the format of a planned meeting with RECs. Originally scheduled as a physical gathering on April 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., the meeting will now be held virtually via Zoom. The change was communicated in a notice titled Notice of Meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (Virtual). RECs were advised to remain in their respective states and await login details for the virtual session. The commission has not provided a reason for the suspension or the shift to a virtual meeting.
