Christians in Nigeria have been urged to speak positively about the country despite ongoing economic and security challenges. Apostle John Okoriko, founder of Solid Rock Kingdom Church in Akwa Ibom State, delivered the message during a monthly service titled "What You Say, You Become" held on Easter Sunday in Uyo. He emphasized that words carry power, citing biblical examples such as God creating the world through speech and Jesus prophesying his resurrection while on the cross. Through the church's Secretary General, Dr. Linus Uko Enang, Okoriko explained that negative speech harms individuals, families, communities, and the nation. He clarified that constructive criticism of government is acceptable, but unnecessary negativity should be avoided. "Let the poor say 'I am rich,' and let the weak say 'I am strong,'" Okoriko said. "What we say has power. We will answer for our words one day. I am not asking people to praise leaders unnecessarily, but be fair and constructive in criticism." He referenced the story of the two thieves crucified with Jesus, noting that one was saved because of his words. Okoriko encouraged young people to remain hopeful and persistent despite hardship.
Apostle John Okoriko's call for positive speech reflects a growing spiritual response to Nigeria's hardships, but it does not replace the need for tangible solutions. When leaders suggest changing national fortune through declaration alone, it risks shifting responsibility from governance to individual utterance. For Nigerians struggling with inflation and insecurity, words may lift spirits, but policies feed families.
