Seven people, including a mother and six children, were abducted by armed bandits from Kurmin-Uwa near Janjala community in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The attack occurred around 10:23 pm on Friday, with gunmen reportedly going directly to the family's home. Those taken include Ladi Malachy, Patience Malachy, Promise Malachy, Inama Malachy, Peter Malachy, and Aboyi Malachy, according to Ibrahim Shehu, a resident of Kagarko town who confirmed the incident. A community leader, speaking anonymously, said he alerted security forces after receiving a distress call about the invasion but was unsure if any response was made.
The village lies just two kilometers from Kagarko town, yet no immediate security intervention was observed. The same security source noted that operatives have been deployed in forests around Kachia since Tuesday, searching for bandits linked to an earlier abduction of ten people in Katari. Attempts to reach DSP Hassan Mansur, spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, were unsuccessful as he neither answered calls nor responded to text messages.
Security forces are stretched thin, chasing leads in one part of Kaduna while fresh abductions occur elsewhere—this time in a village just two kilometers from a major town. The fact that DSP Hassan Mansur did not respond to inquiries after the Kurmin-Uwa abduction speaks volumes about the state of communication and accountability. When police are unreachable after mass kidnappings, it signals a collapse in both presence and public trust. For residents in Kagarko, the danger is no longer looming—it is immediate and unchallenged.
