"They came into the house at night and gathered us together with our children and the other women, including a pregnant woman and a nursing mother with her baby, and took us away," she said. The bandits also forced the victims to trek for hours, despite Jamila's inability to walk due to a mobility issue. She was eventually left behind in the bush, but managed to escape. Tragically, the attack also resulted in the killing of a vigilante member, Abdulrahman Lawal. According to the community vigilante leader, Aliyu Muktar, Abdulrahman was attacked at his shop while trying to defend himself against the bandits. "The attackers were shooting after surrounding the area. He struggled with one of them before they shot him," he said. The father of the deceased, Muhammadu Lawal, confirmed that his son succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
