Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared three senatorial seats vacant on Tuesday after the deaths of their holders in the 10th National Assembly. The affected districts are Enugu North, Nasarawa North, and Rivers South-East. The announcement was made during plenary proceedings at the National Assembly. Akpabio confirmed the vacancies in line with constitutional provisions governing legislative succession.

Each of the deceased senators represented their respective districts at the time of death. The declaration triggers a process for the conduct of by-elections in the affected areas. The Constitution requires that vacant seats arising from death be filled within 90 days. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to oversee the election of new representatives.
