Senator Agom Jarigbe has launched his 2027 re-election campaign for Cross River North with a public appeal for issue-driven political discourse. In a statement titled 'A piece of my thoughts', Jarigbe urged candidates and voters to prioritise policy over personal attacks. He stressed the need for civil debate, unity, and focus on development challenges facing the constituency. The senator, representing the People's Democratic Party, called on political actors to present actionable plans rather than resort to divisive rhetoric. "Let our campaigns be a contest of ideas, not insults," Jarigbe said. He highlighted education, healthcare, and infrastructure as key areas requiring urgent attention. The address was delivered to constituents and stakeholders in Calabar.
Jarigbe is asking for a campaign season centred on ideas, yet his own message offers broad themes without specific policy proposals. If candidates like him expect voters to reject empty sloganeering, they must first model detailed, measurable plans. Without concrete commitments, calls for issue-based politics risk becoming just another political performance. For Nigerians, this means more scrutiny is needed when politicians speak in ideals but deliver little substance.
