All three top performers in the 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) are from Ghana. The examination, taken by final-year secondary school students across the five WAEC member countries, saw Ghanaian female candidates secure the highest scores. Nigeria, which presented 75 percent of the total candidates for the exam, did not produce any of the top three awardees. The top student, Serwaa Amponsah, scored distinctions in all eight subjects she offered. The second and third positions were also claimed by Ghanaian girls, Afua Dadson and Yaa Mensah, respectively. WAEC announced the International Excellence Awards based on the best aggregate scores across English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, and three elective subjects. The awards highlight Ghana's strong academic performance in the regional examination.
