The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to former presidential candidate Peter Obi, vowing to dismantle his influence in the 2027 general elections.
Ben Nwoye, Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, made the declaration during an appearance on Channels Television. The APC chieftain acknowledged the significant impact of the Obidient Movement in the last election, citing the party's impressive performance in the South-East. He noted that the Obidient Movement won a substantial number of seats in the region, including two out of three Senate seats and 15 out of 24 House of Assembly seats.
Nwoye also highlighted Obi's ability to win in various states, including Delta, Edo, and Lagos. The APC chieftain emphasized that Obi's influence extends beyond the Obidient Movement, as he is also associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he is seeking to be the party's flagbearer in 2027.
The APC is preparing for a tough battle in the 2027 election, with Nwoye reiterating that the party will face its biggest challenge from the South. He mentioned that several individuals, including Rotimi Amaechi, are warming up to contest the presidency from the region.
Obi, who won nine of 17 South states in the 2023 presidential election, is now seeking to be the flagbearer of the ADC in 2027.
The APC's vow to dismantle Peter Obi's influence in the 2027 general elections is a clear indication of the party's strategy to counter the Obidient Movement's growing popularity. By acknowledging the significant impact of the Obidient Movement in the last election, the APC is essentially conceding that Obi's influence is a force to be reckoned with. The party's readiness to face a tough battle from the South is a testament to the region's growing political clout. As the 2027 election approaches, it remains to be seen whether the APC's strategy will be enough to counter Obi's influence and secure a victory for the party.
