Two suspects, Furera Abdulrahman, 35, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, have been arrested for abducting a three-day-old baby boy from his mother, Aisha Basa, in the early hours of Sunday, March 29, at Ungwan Bako area, Orange Market, Mararaba, Nasarawa State. The abduction occurred at about 5:45am when the men broke into the mother's house around 11:50pm the previous night, threatened her, and fled with the infant. Aisha Basa's husband, Abubakar Isah, a Keke Napep rider, had been away in Lagos on business for five months prior to the incident.
Nasarawa Police Command spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued Friday in Lafia. Acting on intelligence, police operatives apprehended the suspects on April 3, 2026, at about 4:00am, recovering the baby unharmed. The child was taken to Medical Centre, Mararaba, examined, and confirmed to be in good health before being reunited with his parents. During interrogation, both suspects confessed and named an accomplice still at large. The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for further investigation.
A three-day-old baby was stolen from his sleeping mother, yet the police only moved after nearly five days. The delayed response raises serious questions about frontline policing in Mararaba, where such a brazen home invasion could happen in a densely populated market area. If not for the late arrest on April 3, this story might have ended differently. Furera Abdulrahman and Sadiya Abdullahi are now in custody, but their capture does little to explain why it took 87 hours to act.
