Troops Foil Kidnap Attempt in Borno, Rescue 150 Victims
Troops from the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai have thwarted an attempted kidnap by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State. According to Sani Uba, the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, the troops rescued 150 civilians in the operation.
The victims, including men, women, and children, were about to be forced into 17 vehicles before the troops intervened. Uba said the incident occurred on March 30 while the troops were escorting civilians along the Buratai–Kamuya axis in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The troops swiftly responded to the attack, repelling the terrorists and forcing them to abandon the abducted civilians and vehicles. However, five troops sustained severe injuries and are receiving treatment in the hospital.
Borno State has been the epicentre of insurgency since Boko Haram's 2009 uprising. According to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, military confrontations, bombings, and attacks on civilians in Borno significantly increased last year.
