Oba Semiudeen Kasali, the traditional ruler of Igbogbo Kingdom in Ikorodu, Lagos State, provided free Computer-Based Test (CBT) training to 500 senior secondary school students from six public schools in the community. The training, held on Tuesday at HOMAT CBT Centre, Igbogbo, formed part of the pre-celebration activities for the monarch's 10th Coronation Anniversary. Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the anniversary and former Lagos State Head of Service, disclosed the details in a statement issued Sunday in Lagos. He quoted Oba Kasali as saying, "Knowledge is the lasting crown we can give our young people," emphasizing education as vital to community development.
The participating schools included Zumratul Islamiyah Grammar School, Community Secondary School Bayeku, Lagos State Model Girls College Agunfoye, Reri Secondary School Oreta, Oreyo Grammar School, and Civil Service Model College. Students received hands-on CBT practice, exam-strategy coaching, and career guidance aimed at improving their performance in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The programme reflects the monarch's ongoing focus on education and digital literacy.
A traditional ruler funding CBT training for 500 students stands out in a landscape where public education often hinges on parental pockets. Oba Semiudeen Kasali's direct intervention suggests that community-led educational support can fill critical gaps in government provision. For students in Igbogbo, access to digital exam preparation may tilt the odds slightly in their favour when sitting UTME. This effort shifts expectations of what traditional institutions can practically contribute to youth development.
