The Technology for Social Change and Development Initiative (Tech4Dev) has named Abraham Akpan as its new Country Manager for Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. A non-profit organisation focused on expanding economic opportunities through technology, Tech4Dev operates in 30 African countries and aims to scale its programs further across the region. Mr Akpan will lead strategic partnerships, program development, and regional operations to advance digital inclusion and workforce readiness. He brings over ten years of experience in Africa's tech and development space, including a previous role as Chief Operating Officer at Taltrix, where he managed workforce solutions linking African talent to global markets.
Mr Akpan, a 2021 Mandela Washington Fellow, said he is honoured to join Tech4Dev at a pivotal moment in its growth. He pledged to strengthen technology pipelines for young Africans and support the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into the continent's talent ecosystem. "I look forward to working with partners and stakeholders to scale high-impact programs and create meaningful economic opportunities for young people across Africa," he said. Tech4Dev's 2030 vision centres on inclusive skills development and expanding access to jobs, mentorship, and entrepreneurship for underserved youth.
Appointing a country manager does not automatically translate to expanded job access for Nigerian youths. Mr Akpan's role hinges on whether Tech4Dev's programs reach those outside major cities and elite networks. If the initiative remains concentrated in tech hubs, its impact on mass unemployment will be minimal. Real change requires on-the-ground execution, not just regional appointments.
