Nike Popoola, publisher of Daily Economy, has released a book documenting two decades of evolution in Nigeria's insurance sector. Titled "Trends in Nigeria's Insurance Industry (2005 to 2025) and Selected Insurance Icons," the book was unveiled in Lagos during an event marking the second anniversary of Daily Economy. Popoola said the work draws from her two decades of covering the industry, tracing its shift from low public trust and weak financial footing to a more structured and resilient system. She attributed the transformation to regulatory reforms, recapitalisation efforts, and policy changes, particularly after 2007, which strengthened insurers' financial capacity and improved policyholder protection. The book highlights innovations such as micro-insurance guidelines, digital platforms, and new distribution channels that broadened access to insurance services.
It also profiles key figures who contributed to the sector's growth, blending data with personal narratives. Tope Adaramola, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, noted the book's dual focus on regulatory shifts led by NAICOM and the human stories behind the industry's development. He praised its coverage of risk-based capital requirements and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Alao, represented by AbdulRasaaq Salami of NAICOM, described the book as a strategic record of leadership and resilience. CIIN President Yetunde Ilori and NCRIB President Ekeoma Ezeibe commended Popoola for her contribution to the industry's visibility. Dr Feyisayo Soyewo, who chaired the event, urged widespread use of the publication.
