Manchester United face a financial dilemma over the future of goalkeeper Andre Onana, with his wages set to spike if the team qualifies for Europe.
The Cameroon international joined Turkish side Trabzonspor in a season-long loan deal in September, but with no obligation or option to make the move permanent, Onana is set to return to Old Trafford this summer.
Onana's salary is set to return to its original level, as the deal with Trabzonspor was facilitated by a significant reduction in his wage after missing out on European qualification for the 2025-26 campaign.
Sources have told ESPN that there are concerns at United that the increase will make it more difficult to generate interest in the 29-year-old over the summer.
Onana still has two years left on the contract he signed when he arrived from Inter Milan under former boss Erik ten Hag in 2023.
Sources close to Onana have told ESPN that his preference is to re-join the United squad for pre-season training and fight for his place.
Onana's representatives are expecting talks with the club before the end of May.
Manchester United, however, have been delighted with the form of Senne Lammens since his arrival from Royal Antwerp and expect the Belgian to continue as No.1 next season.
Manchester United's decision on Andre Onana's future hinges on the goalkeeper's ability to command a significant transfer fee, which is now uncertain due to his impending wage increase.
