Police Neutralise Suspected Kidnappers in Nasarawa
The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the neutralisation of suspected kidnappers along the Nasarawa Eggon/Akwanga highway. According to a statement by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Ramahan Nansel, a patrol team attached to Nasarawa Eggon Division encountered the suspects early Monday morning.
The team, on routine patrol, discovered an attempted kidnap incident near Rice Mill, Nasarawa Eggon. The highway had been barricaded with stones by the suspects, who were armed and intent on attacking unsuspecting motorists. Upon sighting the police patrol team, the suspects opened fire, prompting a swift response from the operatives.
The ensuing exchange of gunfire resulted in the overpowered of the criminals, with one suspect neutralised and others fleeing into the surrounding bush with possible gunshot wounds. The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the police to maintain law and order in the state.
The Nasarawa State Police Command's swift response to the attempted kidnap incident is a welcome development, but it raises questions about the frequency of such incidents on the Nasarawa Eggon/Akwanga highway. The police must do more to ensure the safety of motorists and residents in the area. The neutralisation of the suspected kidnappers is a step in the right direction, but it is essential to address the root causes of these incidents and prevent future attempts. The people of Nasarawa deserve to live without fear of kidnap and violence.
