The Ondo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in a case of stolen vehicles. On February 27, 2026, a resident of Akure, Adeyemi Robert, reported that his Toyota Camry had been stolen from a social event on February 14, 2026. The police immediately launched an investigation, deploying intelligence gathering and other strategies to recover the stolen vehicle. Following diligent efforts, detectives successfully traced the car to 40-year-old Awolo Akingbade, who was found in possession of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the principal suspect, Adeyemi David, had sold the car to Akingbade.
The stolen Toyota Camry has been recovered and brought to the police station as an exhibit. Both suspects have been charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation. The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism, which led to the recovery of the vehicle and arrest of the suspects.
The police have warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist and encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to assist in preventing and combating crime in the state.
The recent arrest of two suspects and recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry in Akure highlights the Ondo State Police Command's commitment to ensuring public safety. Commissioner of Police CP Adebowale Lawal's commendation of the operatives involved is a testament to their diligence. However, the frequency of such incidents raises questions about the effectiveness of the police's crime prevention strategies. It is crucial that the police continue to engage with the public and provide adequate support to victims of crime. The recovery of stolen vehicles and apprehension of suspects are a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to address the root causes of crime in the state.
