The Imo State Police Command has arrested five suspects linked to a spate of vehicle thefts, recovering one shuttle bus, 450 suspected stolen motorcycles, and ₦6,495,900 in cash. The operation, led by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit under ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyi, followed intelligence reports and a distress call from Chimeze Christian of Urata in Owerri North Local Government Area. He reported on April 6, 2026, that his driver, Paul Ejike Ohaka, had gone missing with a Wonder Shuttle bus registered KPU 26 XA. The driver was later found unconscious along the Onitsha Road at Irete and taken to Vadan Hospital, New Owerri, where he remains under treatment. Police traced the stolen bus to a workshop in Orlu, where it was being repainted to alter its identity. Two suspects, Olagoke Jelili and Godday Ezike, were arrested at the site. Further investigation led to the arrest of Okechukwu Prince and Raymond Odinaka, who allegedly admitted working under Osita Chigbo, also known as "Barr. Oguta," currently at large. Paul Martins Anya was also arrested as a suspected receiver of stolen vehicles. The suspects allegedly tried to bribe police with ₦5 million, which was rejected. No ownership documents were provided for the motorcycles, many of which were hidden in bush paths before interception.
