Three suspected terrorists were killed in a military operation at Karem community in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State. The operation, conducted by troops of Joint Task Force-Operation Enduring Peace (JTF-OPEP), followed intelligence reports of terrorist movements in the area. Captain Polycarp Oteh, the operation's media officer, said the suspects fled on motorcycles but were engaged and neutralised during the encounter. This action is part of a broader security surge ordered by the Chief of Army Staff, involving a battalion plus specialised counter-terrorism units.
Separately, two suspects were arrested in Dutse Uku community of Jos North LGA on Thursday. According to Oteh, they were dressed in tactical black uniforms and impersonating security personnel. They were caught setting fire to homes and inciting violence. The military confirmed that the two arrested individuals are in custody, while two others with gunshot wounds are receiving treatment in a medical facility. Captain Oteh stated the arrests disprove claims of military involvement in recent unrest in Jos North.
The arrest of men in fake uniforms directly undermines the narrative that the military is behind violence in Jos North — a claim Captain Polycarp Oteh explicitly challenged. If impostors can move freely in tactical gear, it raises serious questions about oversight of military attire and identification.
