A Nigerian family's quiet Sunday morning turned tragic when a mother and her two children lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Texas.
Nihinloluwa Agoro and her children, Temiloluwa and Isaac, were on their way to church in Fort Bend County when the crash occurred on March 15.
The cause of the accident remains unclear as authorities have yet to release an official report.
Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful and devastating tragedy.
She extended her condolences to the grieving family and the wider Nigerian community in the United States, praying for the repose of the deceased and comfort for those left behind.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa's words of condolence ring hollow when considering the broader context of road safety in Nigeria. It is imperative that the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission uses its platform to advocate for improved road infrastructure and adherence to traffic rules in Nigeria, rather than simply urging caution on foreign roads. The loss of this family is a stark reminder of the risks Nigerians face on the roads, both at home and abroad. As the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission stands in solidarity with the grieving family, it must also take concrete steps to address the underlying issues that lead to such tragedies. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of those in power to ensure that Nigerians can travel safely, regardless of their location.
