Lagos State Government officials have expressed confidence in Nigeria's ability to overcome its current challenges under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this assertion during a special prayer session held at the Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque to celebrate President Tinubu's 74th birthday and in support of his re-election bid.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General Lawal Pedro, thanked Lagosians and Nigerians for their continued support for the president. He expressed optimism about the country's future, urging citizens to remain actively engaged in the democratic process.
The governor called on eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate fully in upcoming elections. He also referenced ongoing discussions on the creation of state police, noting that proposals on its operational framework have been submitted to the National Assembly.
Sanwo-Olu appealed for patience and trust in the administration's long-term vision, emphasizing that meaningful national development requires time and consistency.
In his remarks, Abdullahi Jebe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters (Islam), described President Tinubu as a leader who has mentored many and laid enduring foundations for governance.
Jebe stressed the importance of praying for national leaders and urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at national progress.
Chairman of the mosque, Engr. Hafis Toriola, said the initiative was not only to honour the president but also to pray for the country's stability and growth. He noted that the gathering aligns with religious teachings encouraging prayers for leaders.
President Tinubu's re-election bid is met with optimism from Lagos State Government officials, who believe Nigeria will overcome its current challenges under his leadership. However, this optimism is tempered by the need for sustained mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls. The fact that proposals for state police operational frameworks have been submitted to the National Assembly suggests that meaningful national development requires not just time and consistency but also concrete policy initiatives.
