Nigeria inflation eases slightly to 15.06%
**Inflation Rate in Nigeria Eases to 15.06%**
The latest inflation data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that Nigeria's headline inflation rate has decreased to 15.06 per cent in February 2026, down from 15.10 per cent in January of the same year. This slight drop in the inflation rate comes as a welcome relief to Nigerians who have been grappling with the rising cost of living.
According to the NBS, the headline inflation rate fell by 0.04 per cent from the previous month, indicating a decrease in the average price level. When compared to the same month last year, the February 2026 headline inflation rate was 11.21 per cent lower than the 26.27 per cent recorded in February 2025.
The food inflation rate, which is a significant contributor to the overall inflation rate, also showed a decrease. The year-on-year food inflation rate in February 2026 stood at 12.12 per cent, 14.86 percentage points lower than the rate recorded in February 2025 (26.98 per cent).
However, the month-on-month food inflation rate in February 2026 was 4.69 per cent, up from -6.02 per cent in January 2026. The NBS attributed this increase to the rising prices of certain food items, including beans, carrots, okazi leaf, cassava tuber, crayfish, millet flour, yam flour, snails, and avenger (ogbono/apon) – dried, ungrinded, and cow peas.
This development is a glimmer of hope for Nigerians who have been struggling to make ends meet due to the high cost of living. The slight decrease in the inflation rate may not be significant, but it is a step in the right direction towards stabilizing the economy and alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.
It is essential for the government and other stakeholders to continue working towards reducing the inflation rate and improving the overall economic situation in the country. By doing so, they can help to reduce the burden on Nigerians and improve their standard of living.
