Miscreants Set Fagba Rail Corridor Ablaze
Parts of the Fagba Railway Corridor in Lagos were set ablaze by suspected miscreants, who attempted to evade arrest during a clean-up operation by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce).
The operation, aimed at restoring safety and order in the area, was carried out in the early hours of Thursday. Taskforce operatives covered key areas, including Alfa Nla, Okekoto, Pen Cinema, and the Fagba Railway Corridor.
During the operation, pockets of resistance erupted as miscreants set parts of the corridor on fire, putting nearby facilities at risk. These facilities included Sunbeth Filling Station and a branch of Zenith Bank. The fire was swiftly contained by taskforce operatives, with support from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Several suspects were apprehended in connection with the arson and other criminal activities. The suspects will be charged to court under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
The brazen attempt by miscreants to evade arrest by setting the Fagba Rail Corridor ablaze is a stark reminder of the scale of criminal activity in Lagos. The Taskforce's Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, has rightly urged youths to shun criminal behaviour and pursue lawful ventures. The operation's success in containing the fire and apprehending suspects is a testament to the Taskforce's commitment to public safety. However, the fact that this is the third enforcement exercise in the area in 2026 raises questions about the root causes of crime in Lagos. Until these issues are addressed, the cycle of violence and lawlessness will continue to grip the city.
