Man defiles 13-year-old step daughter, friend in Edo
**Edo Man Arrested for Defiling 13-year-old Step-Daughter and Friend**
A disturbing case of child abuse has emerged in Edo State, where a 13-year-old girl and her friend were allegedly defiled by her step-father, Michael Ogungbemi. The incident occurred in the Ogbegun area of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, Edo State.
According to reports, the victim's step-father had been raping her repeatedly, threatening to inflict harm on her if she spoke out about the abuse. After defiling his step-daughter, he allegedly encouraged her to bring her friend, also 13 years old, to their home. The suspect then defiled the friend after three attempts.
The friend fell ill in school and was taken to the hospital for treatment. During her examination, it was discovered that she had contracted an infection. After much pressure, the minor revealed to her parents that the suspect had been having sex with her and his step-daughter.
The parents immediately notified the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), which promptly arrested the suspect. In a confession, Michael Ogungbemi attributed his actions to the devil.
The ESSC Deputy Commander, Richard Balogun, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was apprehended following a tip-off and has been handed over to the police for prosecution. This case highlights the need for awareness and action against child abuse in our society.
In Nigeria, child abuse is a widespread problem that affects many children, especially girls. It is essential that we create a culture of openness and support for victims of child abuse, and that perpetrators are brought to justice.
The Edo State Government and other stakeholders must take concrete steps to prevent such cases from occurring in the future. This includes providing education and counseling to children, as well as supporting victims of child abuse.
We must also continue to raise awareness about the importance of reporting cases of child abuse to the authorities. By doing so, we can create a safer and more nurturing environment for our children to grow and thrive.
