Maiduguri blasts: Army warns of multiple suicide bombers; death toll rises to 26
**Multiple Explosions Rock Maiduguri: Army Warns of Possible More Attacks**
Reports from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, indicate a series of devastating explosions that occurred on Monday evening, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake. At least 26 people have lost their lives, with 146 others receiving injuries in the coordinated attacks.
The blasts, which happened at three locations simultaneously – the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), the Monday Market roundabout, and the Post Office – have left residents of Maiduguri on edge. The attacks, which are considered among the deadliest in recent years, have raised concerns about the potential for more attacks in the city.
According to the Nigerian Army, terrorists may have deployed multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri with the intention of carrying out coordinated attacks at crowded locations. The Army has intensified surveillance and security operations across the city to track down suspects and prevent further attacks.
In a statement, the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), warned that residents of Borno State should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. "To prevent a recurrence, security forces have intensified surveillance, patrols, and counter-IED measures across the city," the statement added.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that 108 injured victims were admitted at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, 20 at Umaru Shehu Hospital, and 17 at a private hospital. Rescue and evacuation operations are ongoing, while medical teams are attending to the injured in various health facilities.
The recent attacks in Maiduguri bring to mind the security challenges that have plagued the North-East region of Nigeria in recent years. The Nigerian Army has been working tirelessly to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of citizens, but the threat remains a constant concern.
As the city of Maiduguri continues to grapple with the aftermath of the explosions, residents are left to wonder when the next attack will occur. The Nigerian Army's warning of possible more attacks serves as a reminder that vigilance and cooperation between security agencies and citizens are crucial in preventing further incidents.
