The Kano State government has signed a partnership with Chinese engineering firm CGC to rehabilitate and expand the state's water supply infrastructure. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced the collaboration during an inspection of key water treatment plants, including the Tiga and Challawa facilities. The project aims to boost water production and distribution across the state, where residents have long faced irregular supply. Yusuf stated that the intervention would cover upgrades to aging equipment, pipeline networks, and power supply systems critical to plant operations. He emphasized that the state government had prioritized water as a key public service and was investing heavily to reverse decades of neglect. The governor noted that the Tiga Water Treatment Plant, one of the largest in the region, currently operates below capacity due to technical and logistical challenges. CGC, which has previously worked on infrastructure projects in Africa, will begin initial assessments before full-scale work commences. No financial figures or implementation timeline were disclosed during the announcement.
