Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has formalised a partnership with ASI Engineering Limited to accelerate power sector reforms and expand infrastructure. The agreement, sealed during high-level discussions at the Kaduna Electric Franchise Energy Summit in London, was announced by Commissioner for Information Ahmed Maiyaki. Under the deal, the state will commit N15 billion for a 5.54% equity stake in ASI Engineering, which translates to a 4.13% indirect stake in Kaduna Electric. The summit, framed as a milestone in the governor's push for industrialisation, investment attraction and shared prosperity, positioned reliable energy as central to these goals.
Speaking through the statement, officials highlighted the governor's move as proof of Kaduna's dedication to strategic partnerships and regional collaboration to widen energy access and spur development. Sani also joined governors from Zamfara and Kebbi at the event to push for broader cooperation and investor engagement on scalable energy solutions. The statement framed the investment as a deliberate bid to secure Kaduna's energy future, fuel industrial expansion and lift living standards.
The N15 billion outlay exposes Kaduna's gamble on a private firm to fix its power woes, yet the state's 4.13% stake in Kaduna Electric suggests limited control over the very infrastructure it is betting on. If the investment fails to yield stable supply, the political fallout will land squarely on Uba Sani, who staked his industrialisation agenda on this deal.
