Deadly Attack Hits Wedding Celebration in Kaduna
A tragic incident unfolded in Kahir village, located in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where a wedding celebration was disrupted by armed bandits. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people, with several others abducted and scores injured. The police authorities have confirmed the incident and are still gathering details, including the number of abducted victims.
The attack occurred around 11:47 p.m. on Sunday, according to a community leader, Musa Adamu. The attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the venue and began shooting indiscriminately at guests inside the hall. Several attendees sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital in Kagarko, while those with more critical wounds were referred to facilities in Kaduna.
Residents reported that the gunmen operated for nearly an hour without resistance, looting nearby shops and making away with food items, provisions, and drugs from a local chemist. A manhunt for the attackers has commenced, with a view to arresting them and bringing them to justice, according to Police authorities.
The Kaduna State government's failure to effectively tackle the menace of banditry in the state has led to a surge in attacks on innocent civilians, including the recent deadly assault on a wedding celebration. The fact that the attackers operated for nearly an hour without resistance raises serious questions about the preparedness and effectiveness of the security agencies in the state. The deployment of US troops to Nigeria to provide technical and training support to the country's soldiers in fighting jihadist groups highlights the complexity of the security challenges facing the country. The Kaduna State government must take concrete steps to address the security concerns of its citizens, including providing adequate security for public gatherings and events. The recent incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for the government to prioritize the safety and security of its citizens.
