Dangote Cement has embarked on a large-scale tree-planting exercise to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Forests. The initiative, which is part of the company's commitment to environmental sustainability, saw the distribution of seedlings to 13 schools. Hundreds of trees were also planted as part of the exercise.
The company's Transport Unit in Obajana took the lead in the tree-planting exercise, with the Divisional Director Transport, retired Col. Hemant Rana, highlighting the importance of forests in regulating the climate, supporting biodiversity, and providing essential resources for humans. Rana noted that the awareness session and demonstration align with the company's ongoing commitment to educating and inspiring stakeholders.
The symbolic tree planting and distribution of seedlings to selected schools are aimed at building a culture of environmental stewardship among the younger generation. The Dangote Group, which is the biggest employer of labour in Nigeria aside government, is also highlighting the role of forests in providing jobs, sustainable livelihoods, and economic resilience.
