Civilians in northern Nigeria are caught in a web of escalating violence, with at least 27 people killed in recent attacks in Plateau and Kaduna states. The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has condemned these brutal and inhumane attacks, which included the killing of 14 people in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, and the deaths of 13 others at a wedding gathering in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.
The CNG has warned against attempts to exploit ethnic and religious divisions, as well as the growing involvement of foreign actors in the region. In a statement, the group's National Coordinator, Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, expressed concern over retaliatory actions by some youths in Plateau State, which could further inflame tensions and deepen divisions.
Charanchi urged religious leaders, community influencers, and opinion shapers to exercise restraint and avoid inflammatory statements that could worsen the situation. He also warned about the activities of foreign interlopers and non-state actors, who are allegedly exploiting existing fault lines to advance destabilizing agendas.
Charanchi called on the federal and state governments to take decisive action to protect lives and property, and to implement sustainable strategies that address the root causes of insecurity. He also urged security agencies to ensure that perpetrators of these heinous crimes are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
