The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned the bail hearing of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to Wednesday.
The adjournment was confirmed by El-Rufai's counsel, Ukpong Abang (SAN), who declined to provide further details on the proceedings. El-Rufai was escorted out of the court premises by ICPC operatives in a white Hilux vehicle after the adjournment.
El-Rufai is standing trial on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering. He was brought before the court after spending over a month in detention.
The court had previously fixed March 31, 2026, for the hearing of pending applications, including El-Rufai's bail request. However, he was released on compassionate grounds on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother in Cairo, Egypt.
El-Rufai had arrived at the court under tight security for the hearing of his bail application.
Nasir El-Rufai's bail hearing has been pushed back to Wednesday, a development that will keep Nigerians on tenterhooks for another day. This adjournment is a testament to the complexity of El-Rufai's corruption trial, which has been ongoing for over a month. The implications of this delay are clear: El-Rufai will remain in detention for at least another day, and the public will continue to grapple with the question of whether justice will be served in this high-profile case.
